God uses natural and supernatural signs to lead people to His Messiah, and Matthew uses the visit of the ‘Magi’ to present these as means of God’s communication to all people. The revelation of the Messiah was first to the poor Jewish peasants, then to the wealthy educated Gentiles, while the Jewish aristocracy and religious leaders completely missed it.
